One woman from Uster is Crazy about Mosaic
Laurie Glynn transforms secondhand Objects into Mosaic Art
tsp. 5 years ago, the word "art" was foreign to the American business woman,
Laurie Glynn. Since she lives in Uster, this has changed. She spends up to
20 hours per week in her workshop transforming all types of objects.
Laurie Glynn is crazy about mosaic. "Mad About Mosaic" reads her business card,
which she is happy to give to anyone who is interested in her mosaic creations.
Until 5 years ago, this American woman, who married a Swiss in 1988,
had no interest in Art. She studied Philosophy in California and completed her
business studies in France. "In the US, I was only interested in business"
explains the 38-year-old, despite coming from a creative family.
From Used Objects to Art Objects
5 years ago she participated in a mosaic course, during which she discovered
her creative side. Since then she has dedicated herself to the art of mosaic.
The basis for her work are objects which have been thrown away or which she
finds in secondhand stores. "I'm continually amazed at what the Swiss throw away"
says the Artist. She transforms planters, vases or mirrors with tiffany glass
into colorful creations. "I love taking objects with an interesting form and
making them beautiful." To like her creations, you must also like color, says Glynn.
Her favorite subject is the gecko "because he's so colorful", she says.
Not Cheap
That people like her creations was proven at the recent Uster Christmas Market,
where she sold two vases and two cups. This gave the artist confirmation that her
work has reached a certain maturity. Her mosaic vases are not inexpensive: work and
material costs are high. "My products are exclusive" explains the artist matter-of-factly.
An Order from Home
Her creations have been shown on-line on her homepage www.glynn.ch for some time now.
An art collector in far-away California - Laurie Glynn's home - recently made an
e-mail order. Laurie Glynn's next project will be to design a bathroom in Burgdorf.
"My first large project", tells the artist with obvious pleasure. Her mosaics are on
display at the moment in the window of an empty shop at Oberlandstrasse 100
(entrace to EPA). If you're interested in her creations, you can reach the artist at 01/941 82 64.
